395000 SQM Development Planned In Manchester

A masterplan has been revealed for, a new project called Chancellor Place situated on a 38 acre site bordering the south-eastern edge of Manchester's city centre partially sandwiched into the Eastern Gateway.
The massive scheme contains dozens of blocks with no less than 15 of them being over 35 metres tall that will completely transform what is at present a rundown predominantly industrial area.
The buildings are massed to rise up in both height and density from low-level residential terraces to along Chancellor Place to a peak of 25 storeys and a 75.7 metre tall residential tower where it meets Mancunian Way acting as a landmark for the road running through the site.
Triangular in shape, the site is effectively split into zones with the eastern side being terraced housing and offices included in the centre that give way to taller housing in apartment blocks on the sharp western tip.
In total 395,724 square metres of new floor-space is planned, half of which will be residential and a quarter of which will be offices. There will also be parking for 3,825 cars that is not included the floor-space total.
Within the housing on the eastern end of the plot, there will be a large amount of secure green space for residents to enjoy with public open space dominating the western half of the development.
This includes a new public area overlooking the River Medlock, an attempt to create an intimate waterside setting, a green bridge that straddles the Mancunian Way that will have trees growing on it, and Chancellors Square, a public plaza infront of the tallest building in the development.
