Rangers have confirmed they have made a bid for the Espanyol defender Raul Rodriguez.
The 23-year-old would be Rangers second Spanish signing of the summer after they secured midfielder Juanma Ortiz from Almeria on a three year contract.
"We have contacted Espanyol with a bid but haven't heard back from them," said manager Ally McCoist.
"He's someone I'd look to bring right into the team. I'm not looking for players who aren't going to play."
Rodriguez had three seasons in Spain's Second Division with Gramenet before joining Espanyol last summer.
McCoist is hopeful of an early answer from the Spanish side, but says the club are also looking at other potential signings.
"We just need cover and hopefully Rodriguez will give us that," McCoist told the Rangers website.
"We're still looking at other players and there will be other bids going in over the next 48 hours,
"Rodriguez won't be the last defender we go for."
