    A list of Mayors and Chiefs of Government of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital, since its federalization.
    Its first Mayor (Spanish: Intendente, Intendant) was Torcuato de Alvear, who was appointed, following the law of federalization of Buenos Aires, directly by President Julio Argentino Roca.
    Following the 1994 reform of the Argentine Constitution, the city gained autonomous status. Since 1996, the Chiefs of Government (Jefes de Gobierno) of the city are directly elected by the citizenry. The office of Vice-Chief (Vicejefe de Gobierno) was also created. The first Chief of Government to be elected was Fernando de la Rúa, who would later become President of Argentina.
