KW Linfoot Ponder New Leeds Tower

Early consultations are underway for what could be Leeds next tall building on what is shaping up to be a future prime spot in the Yorkshire city.
A tower was previously planned for the site, by KW Linfoot and designed by Ian Simpson, but this did not progress past the drawing board.
With this new scheme, there could well be the feeling that there's enough of the distinctive Ian Simpson architectural style arriving in Leeds soon with Lumiere, Criterion and possibly the West Properties proposal, and so another architect has been sought.
It's being worked up by Aedas Architects with the WSP Group doing the engineering design for busy local developer KW Linfoot who are building Leeds first skyscraper, the Lumiere. The site for the scheme is located at St Peter's Street, Dyer Street and Millgarth Street.
Sources have revealed the reported height of the scheme is said to be about 60 floors of largely residential accommodation in the main tower with an adjacent building of about 10 floors that will be a hotel. This is however liable to change as the scheme is only at the stage of WSP looking at preliminary drawings of a feasibility study for the scheme.
It will come as little surprise to observers as Richard Dean, the development director of KW Linfoot revealed last year they were looking at developing further tall buildings thanks to the success of the Lumiere.
Designs are likely not to be revealed for some time yet even if the sums do add up and the project proves feasible, but yet another skyscraper proposal, even at such early stages, goes some way to showing that developers still have a belief they can make money in Leeds despite the fears of over supply of apartments in the city centre.
