New Fosters Scheme On Albert Embankment

Foster and Partners have been working on this new largely residential scheme to stand on the Albert Embankment in London.

Located in the Borough of Lambeth in between Vauxhall and Waterloo, the plan is for three towers that will stand on the site of a nondescript sixties office building, Hampton House.

The buildings will be 85 metres and 27 floors, 75.85 metres and 24 floors, and 40.05 metres and 13 floors respectively. The ground floors will be occupied by new retail whilst the floors above them will be where the residential units are located.

Replacing the current wall-like office building that creates an impenetrable boundary through the site, will be the curving designs of the towers that open up space at the bases creating new public areas in what is presently a blighted riverside location.

These curves and vertical lines are the defining feature of the scheme as the buildings step up towards the river in height emphasising the soar of what is a relatively short scheme whilst presumably maximising residential space where the views will boost their sale values to the limit.

There are already a series of residential buildings along this stretch of riverbank including Peninsula Heights which shows off the high retail values of the area by having non-penthouse apartments listed on the market for what is in excess of £3 million.

The developer, Newlands Enterprises, are quietly confident that they can secure planning approval from Lambeth Council and proceed with the plan in 2011
