A new residential tower off Bethnal Green Road in eastern London has been proposed by Stock Woolstencroft Architects.

Designed for joint developers of the scheme, the Genesis Housing Group and Telford Homes, the scheme consists of two buildings, the taller a 25 storey tower on the western part of the site that will rise to 73.5 metres.

They are located on a site currently occupied by low-rise industrial units that is bounded by Bethnal Green Road, Cygnet Street, and Bacon Street with the new Shoreditch underground station due to open in 2010 on the western edge of the site making the site highly accessible in the not too distant future. The site also stands adjacent to the much-anticipated development of Bishopsgate Goodsyard.

If approved the proposal will see the construction 372 new homes ranging from 1 to 5 bedrooms, the majority of which will be shared ownership or reserved for keyworkers.

There will be a new public square separating the two buildings which would stand along an east-west axis, basement parking for 83 cars, and 3360 square metres of commercial space of various uses including office and retail.

Submitted at the end of November, Tower Hamlets is expected to pass judgment on the scheme at the end of February or beginning of March.
