Manchesters Dalton Street Wins Outline Approval

Manchester City Council has given outline planning permission to proposals for a new residential lead scheme proposed for Dalton Street.
Drawn up by architects Calder Peel Carden Croft for developer Michael Marsden, the scheme will see a number of blocks including an 18 floor tower built if realised.
They aim to build a mixture of different scales of new housing ranging from 13 new terraces on one side of the site to 149 apartments hosted in several adjacent blocks including 90 in the main tower on the other end of the site.
Big emphasis is placed by the architects and developers on the configurable nature of the larger 3 bedroom units by having temporary sliding walls inside the main living/kitchen areas so that the space can be divded up with the addition of semi permanent bedroom areas if residents so desire.
There is also a car heavy slant to the scheme with all apartments having a 1:1 parking ratio and the terraces managing to have a 2:1 ratio showing they are clearly aimed at families with more than one car.
With outline permission now secured, a fully comprehensive application that moves away from the basic philosophy and massing presented towards something with greater detail, will have to be drawn up for the developer to get permission to build the scheme.
