Big Plans For White City

A master plans are being dreamed up for the next stage of White City in Shepherd's Bush, west London following on from part one of the development by Westfield.
Land ownership of the proposed site is mixed and dominated by BBC, Marks and Spencer and Helical Bar who are each expected to recruit their own architects to do the detailed design of their parcels.
Included on the 43 acres will be three zones containing 3000-4000 new homes, office space for 11,000 new jobs, new retail and leisure space, and an improved underground station. There is also the chance that QPRs new owners will look at redeveloping their stadium but so far this is only a possibility.
Stretching out beyond the White City master plan are other changes. One of the big ones will be the centre of Shepherds Bush itself with the plans concentrating much attention around the nearby Green, a valuable piece of open space that can be better taken advantage of with improved access.
Around the music venue, Shepherd's Bush Empire, there will be remodeling of the roads with the aim of removing the barriers that the ring-road creates around it and again improving pedestrian permeability.
If realised, local council Hammersmith and Fulham, hope that they can breathe some much needed life into one of the forgotten bits of west London that should be a more bustling and modern place than it currently is.
